a few things...

1) Our guard likes to air his socks and shoes on our lawn on sunny days. OK, I can only assume that they are the guards, but anyway it is really funny that every day that is sunny there is a pair of black shoes, with the insoles out, and a pair of socks basking in the sun on the grass.

2) When you live in a country where English is not the primary language sometimes people make jokes and you don't understand. This always cracks me up at staff meetings when the Chinese teachers are speaking or sometimes at church when it is bilingual service: a joke is made and the Chinese people and Taiwan lifers who speak Chinese all laugh out loud, while me and my only-speak-English compadres look around at eachother blankly. I don't know why this cracks me up, but it does.

3) I saw a police officer pointing a GUN at someone on Friday! Gemma and I were biking home from the toy store and on the other side of the street I could see police scooters, one of which was laying on the ground, and a police car, and hear the siren blaring. I could see one officer with his feet firmly planted pointing a gun ahead and down at what I could only assume was some sort of cafuffle. (I could not see what was happening on the ground because it was all taking place behind a parked car. All I could see was the police officer aimed and watching) After a second the people behind the car stood up; an officer hauling up some dude in street clothes and a scooter helmet. The gun remained pointed at him and the arresetee was escorted into the police car. One police officer was filming the whole thing, so maybe it was some sort of training exercise or video project. It maybe wasn't even a real gun but anyway, it was CRAZY!

I can totally relate to #2. I teach at a college in southern TW and sometimes at staff meetings with 300+ people in attendance, one dean always seems to get the group laughing. Since my Chinese is minimal, once I was so curious what he said that was so funny that I asked a co-worker,and she said, "He said we all need to clean our own air-conditioners". .... I guess something was lost in translation, haha.

I enjoy your blog.
