What's in a name?

Congratulations to Lynette, who got 100% on last week's fewer/less quiz. And special thanks to Mr. Thomas Hickey for his helpful comparison; just think of it as much/many. If you can count it, use fewer (or many). If you can't count it use less (or much). That makes it so simple, way to go Mr. Hickey.

No grammar this week, but here is an interesting item to discuss that came up at our small group leader's training today. In Thailand, a very Budhist nation, there is a new Christian movement. But because of the negative connotations associated with the word Christian, and the 'fear factor' of changing names for those people they are calling themselves 'New Buddhists'. Now, it means Christian, it's a Christian group but that's the terminology they are using. Now I know that a rose by any other name will still smell as sweet, but really, can we be true followers of Christ is we are ashamed to take his name? Thoughts and comments?

i think that calling Christians "new buddhists" could cause a great deal of confusion regarding their beliefs, etc - it connotes that somehow their beliefs are an extension of buddhism or somehow derived from buddhism.

oooh that's a toughy. There should never be shame shown if we love Christ, but I can understand how prejudice might make them want to be careful. However we are told that EVERY person who loves Christ will have persecution, if we truly love Him, shouldn't we meet that head on instead of hiding?
