It's been such a tiring week, physically and emotionally. Kids not sleeping, not like that's new but still dragging on and on. Then this morning read the news about the tragic death of Dallas Martens. I wouldn't say we were friends, but we lived three houses apart for all of our school lives, and he was only a year older than me so I knew him for sure. It was just so shocking that such a thing could happen. This combined with Karen's death a few weeks ago, and then Dad emailed this morning and said that Jean, a good friend of his and mom's and now Sheri's, finally succumbed to her cancer. People say things come in three's and I usually chalk that up to superstition but wow, here it is. Three in a row.
I've been reading a book at school, Turn Turn Turn, based on the Pete Seeger song which was based on the words from Ecclesiastes and wow, it hit me hard today. The author who illustrated it is coming to our school so I've been dwelling on the book trying to decide what to do with it, and the illustrations are so touching and thought provoking and the words of course so fitting for a time like this. It is a wonderful discussion starter and explainer of 'why do bad things happen' for young children, I think, just explaining how every time has its season and the world has both parts to it. Check it out if you have a chance.
Going to finish my progress reports so I can go to bed.
