Helpful People

There are some people in our lives that seem very concerned with helping us. The video store people is one group. everytime we bring back late movies they are always like, "Oh No!" It is late" and seem all concerned that we have to pay the late fees. To us, it's not such a big deal..paying late fees goes with the territory of renting movies with us. But they get really concerned, and I think its partly because they think we don't understand when they are due. They always write thew due date on a piece of paper and stick it in the , and say it about three times, and then give a maternal warning as we leave..."Don't be late!!" It's very cute.

And the other helpful person I know is the bank guy who helps me transfer money home. He seems very amazed that I've survived in this country without speaking Chinese. He offers advice like "You should send more money at one time, so you don't have to pay the fee," because it costs about 12$CDN everytime we send money home. And I go every two months or so. And yesterday there were these other girls who are usually busy when I'm there but they were free to help me. And they thought it was very funny that I couldn's speak Chinese, too. It usually comes up when I ask them to write my address for me, because I don't know how to write it in Chinese so I just hand them my ID card and say I can't write it. And so yesterday his advice was "You should try learn Chinese." Gee, thanks buddy. You think that would be helpful? Really? Anyway, he is very sweet and it's very funny watching them suffer because they think that I am suffering.
